Rampart

Rampart, Alaska,  located on the south bank of the Yukon River, was established as a gold mining town in the late 1800s. At the time, the city’s population swelled to over 10,000 and local businesses thrived. Within a few years, however, most miners had moved to other more promising sites. Over the years the population has slowly decreased to a year-round base population of approximately 50 people, with higher numbers of inhabitants in the summer months. Most of Baan o yeel kon Corporation shareholders live in Fairbanks or other communities across the state of Alaska as well as nationwide.  Transportation to and from Rampart is difficult and the cost of living is high as a result.  Limited wage opportunities, lack of housing, and high food and utility costs weigh heavily on the residents. As the village corporation for Rampart, Baan o yeel kon reaches out nationally to benefit people locally. Over the past 20 years, NTVI Federal, Inc., has generated over $2.1M in distributions, contributing to Baan o yeel kon Corporation’s ability to share the earnings with their shareholders.
