Rampart

Rampart, located on the south bank of the Yukon River, was established as a gold mining town in the late 1800s. At the time, the city’s population swelled to 10,000 and local businesses thrived. Within a few years however, miners had moved to other more promising sites. The small Native Athabascan community remained in Rampart, but residents had to turn to other means of survival. These included fishing, trapping, logging, fox and mink farming, as well as agriculture.

Today, the population of Rampart is less than 50. Wage opportunities are limited and increased fuel costs weigh heavily on the residents. As the village corporation of Rampart, Baan O Yeel Kon reaches out nationally to benefit people locally. One of its subsidiaries, NTVI Federal, Inc., has generated over $2.1M in distributions, generating a significant impact on the lives of shareholders.
